Before I begin a service, one of the most common concerns that comes up in my chair is dandruff or an itchy scalp. As unpleasant as itchy scalps can be, they are not always caused by serious illness and can be treated with over-the-counter products. Let’s discuss some of the basic causes of a flaky, dry, itchy scalp and some shampoos that can help.
Does Dandruff on Scalp Cause Hair Loss? Treatment for Dry Itchy Scalp
Let me ask you this question. How many of us knew that there are different causes of dandruff and itchy scalps? Well, for starters, some of the causes can be related to your environment or climate. Generally, those colder climates in most cases cause our scalp to become a bit drier, which leads to dandruff and even hair loss.
Another reason could be a bad hair care routine. Firstly, washing your hair too often and stripping your scalp of its natural oils can be a major factor in causing dry scalp problems. Also, using a lot of hair products, especially oil-based ones, requires deeper cleaning of clogged pores. If you don’t address this cause, you’ll probably have to treat your itchy scalp soon.
In general, I would say that using oil-based products is one of the most common causes of dandruff and itchy scalp. The situation is getting worse now that “growth oils” are becoming a trend and promise magical results. As a master hairstylist and trichologist who sees oily and itchy scalps on a daily basis, I would recommend buying such products with great caution. In most cases, they only clog the pores and cause a build-up on the scalp.
