MMORPG fans don’t exactly have much choice, so when a new MMO comes along that promises the world, it immediately grabs our attention. An ambitious MMORPG that’s been in development for nearly eight years just got a two-hour gameplay showcase, but fans online aren’t impressed.
They FINALLY revealed the real INGAME gameplay!
Intrepid Studios aired an extensive development update for its sprawling MMORPG-in-development, Ashes of Creation, during a Twitch stream on July 31. The video shows a group of six (fairly standard) fantasy characters exploring a forest area; you can see the UI and talent trees, a few Bard-class buff spells, and some basic combat. The graphics and animations are nice, but there’s nothing particularly special or exciting here.
A Redditor shared the clip to /r/MMORPG the same day, and the responses are telling of the community's sentiment. The top-voted response reads: "I comment on every [Ashes of Creation] post about this: I get excited once we're within 3 months of the official release." One user replied, "I honestly don't think this game will ever be fully finished," while another said, "!remindmein2034."
They have a point. Ashes of Creation raised over $3 million from nearly 20,000 Kickstarter backers in 2017, and seven years later there’s still no sign of a release date in sight. According to the Wiki, Alpha Two is set for October 2024, but it could still be a long way off.
