Battle royale games have long taken inspiration from each other. A new chapter in that story arrives next week in the new season of Apex Legends.

Apex Season 22, Shockwave, adds a new trios mode called Revival. It’s heavily inspired by Call of Duty: Warzone’s Resurgence mode, which recently provided a heavy inspiration for Fortnite’s new Reload mode. If you’ve played either of those, you know what to expect from Revival.

"Stay in the game longer with Revival, a new take on respawning without banners or respawn beacons," Respawn said in its announcement. "As long as a teammate is still standing, you'll automatically respawn based on a timer up to the fourth ring. But it's never that easy. Your respawn timer will increase with every death and every round; and if you and another player are both downed, you'll respawn together on the earliest timer. Any surviving teammate can accelerate the timer by taking aggressive actions like dealing damage, taking down enemies, and eliminating them."

If the description sounds familiar, it probably should. Warzone’s Resurgence mode introduced a respawn-enabled wrinkle to the battle royale formula, and it’s since become quite popular, spawning its own rules, maps, ranked mode, and subset of regular BR fans.
