In Baldur's Gate 3, Chop is an NPC found in the Morgue in Mind Flayer Colony. You'll get the chance to interact with him in Act 2 and decide whether to kill or spare him. While Chop himself will want to die, you can still decide what to do in this situation. Remember that your decision can change the story afterward, so you need to make the best choice. To help you with that, we've created this guide. It will help you determine whether to spare or kill Chop in BG3.

As you talk to Chop, you will realize that he is being controlled by someone he doesn't know, probably the Absolute. Because of that, he has to do horrible things like slaughtering people and turning them into Intellect Devourers, the crawling brains. Because of this evil stuff, Chop has no desire to exist anymore and that is why he has the urge to die.

So if you kill Chop in BG3, it will essentially be counted as a mercy kill. This means that you free him from his guilt and inner pain. However, by doing this, all nearby Intellect Devourers will become hostile towards you. If you choose to spare him, Chop will continue to do his job (by force). Which means that he will be guilty forever.

One more thing, if you saved “Us”, the Intellect Devourer in Act 1 in Nautiloid Ship, you will find him here again. Chop has locked Us in a cage. If you free this Intellect Devourer, you will get a “Conjure US” spell. You can use it in future battles to summon him and use him as a temporary companion.
