Cyberpunk 2077's multiplayer mod CyberMP has completed its first playtest. Set in Night City, 20 players compete in team deathmatch-style races and shootouts.

The solo developer behind the CyberMP mod recently invited YouTuber Juicehead and other players to the first-ever playtest. With GTA Online-style server functionality already in place, the mod shows a lot of promise, as seen in Juicehead's July 6 video. Players can roam the massive Night City map together and engage in gunfights or races against each other, a dream unfulfilled for Cyberpunk 2077 players ever since the official multiplayer mode was shelved in order to focus on fixing the game.
With a fan-made multiplayer mod, you might normally be concerned about desync and teleportation issues. Surprisingly, that’s not the case with CyberMP. “In terms of functionality, my hits registered as they should,” Juicehead noted. “It’s not like you had to lead your targets or have any netcode issues.” He added that races felt “even more immersive,” and compared the minor desyncs during playtest racing to something you’d experience in Forza, a full-fledged multiplayer racing title.
The playtest build lacked character animations, making gunplay seem a bit wonky. However, that area has also been greatly improved, with new third-person animations introduced, which can be seen in CyberMP's latest video.
