It’s hard to believe, but Apex Legends is now five years old. That’s half a decade of content, plus the inevitable ups and downs in player count. With Season 22, the developers are hoping to bring people back to the game.

Flatline or R301?

After a tumultuous Season 21 that started off promisingly with major updates to Broken Moon, player numbers dropped in the second half of the season to levels not seen since 2021, according to Steam Charts. There were a variety of reasons for this, from cheaters returning with a vengeance to concerns over matchmaking, to review-bombing from players after controversial battle pass changes were announced, only to partially decline.

Has season 22 changed that?

According to Steam Charts, Apex Legends has peaked at 314,327 concurrent players on Steam so far in Season 22, with the current 24-hour peak being 287,593 players as of August 8. Of course, this number doesn't account for EA's own platform, nor does it include console players on PlayStation, Xbox, and Switch. Given all of those platforms, it's likely that Apex will have surpassed one million concurrent players across all platforms at some point during Season 22.
