Iron in Hades 2 is neither an early nor an end-game resource, as it can be found in one of the two Early Access surface areas. As the Supergiant adds new biomes, there will likely be more locations to mine it, but for now it can only be found in one. Since you’ll need to explore the surface, you’ll need to unlock the ability to traverse protected gateways and subsequently lift the life-draining curse that’s in place on the land. You’ll also need to equip the Melinoe with a pickaxe in order to break and obtain iron. Let’s take a closer look.
Iron in Hades 2 can be obtained by destroying the cannonballs in the surface region, Rift of Thessaly. As we said above, you will need a pickaxe to break it or to be more specific; you will need a Crescent Pick. It is one of the first pieces of equipment you unlock in the game, so you will already have it by the time you unlock the surface. Remember to keep the pickaxe with you before you enter the region, because you will not always find the cannonballs.
Since the location and method of mining is clear, you may be wondering how to travel through Warded Gateways and walk freely on the surface without taking damage. If so, read on, because this provides the solution for those who need it.
You'll need Permeation of Witching-Wards Incantation and Unraveling of a Fateful Bond Incantation for this one. The former will bring the ward to the surface, and the latter will lift the curse. Permeation of Witching-Wards is added to Crossroads cauldron after talking to Hermes a few times in Erebus. The ingredients needed for the recipe are: 1 Cinder, 1 Shadow, and 3 Moly.
