Dark and Darker is a loot-based game. And like any other game of this type, it has a Luck stat and potions that boost it. But players often get confused between these two and ask: What exactly does Luck do in Dark and Darker? Here is the answer.
How Happiness REALLY Works
To put it bluntly, Luck increases your chances of finding higher quality items and decreases your chances of finding lower quality items in Dark and Darker. Luck is a stat that each of your characters has. It has a cap of 500 and can be improved in countless ways, and it's part of a complex mathematical system that dictates and calculates what loot you'll find and where. However, depending on what type of lobby you're in (Normals or High-Roller) and what you're looting (unique mobs, common spawns, common vs. unique chests, etc.) the Luck stat will have a different impact.
In general, players should see a drop in Poor-quality items and a significant spike in Common items with a higher Luck stat. Rare items in Normal mode should also appear significantly more often, though they will still be, well, Rare in Normal mode. Luck has more of an impact in High Roller mode, where players with a lot of Luck on their character can expect to find many more Rare and Epic items.
The Luck potion essentially works by directly increasing your Luck stat. Luck potions come in the rare Uncommon and Epic variants, and grant players a random amount of Luck. For the Uncommon version, you can expect to receive 20, 50, or 80 bonus Luck with each use, while the Epic variant grants you 50, 100, or 150 bonus Luck. While these amounts may seem significant, the amount of Luck is not directly proportional to its effect, so players won’t see too much of a difference in Normal mode, where item rarities are tilted towards the lower end.
